At least two stray cats were found dead yesterday in Qawra, in what is being suspected as the latest poisoning spree in the residential area.

Police have now been brought in to investigate. The case involves the “suspected wilful poisoning” of cats at Triq James Smith, where at least two cats were found dead last night at around 9pm.

One of the cat feeders in the area, who takes care of twelve cats in total, told Lovin Malta that the cats were not breeding, as they are all neutered.

Residents alerted the police, who immediately visited the site and commenced their investigation. Footage from onsite CCTVs may also be used to help the police identify the perpetrators.

The suspected substance is snail poison, which triggers excruciating pain before immediate death.

Police investigations are ongoing and the Animal Welfare department has been informed.
