Watch: Can’t Adopt? No Problem – Maltese Cat Fosterer Launches Sponsor A Kitten Campaign

A dedicated Maltese cat fosterer has just launched a Sponsor A Kitten campaign targetting those that would like to help abandoned animals in Malta but don’t have the means to adopt.

The campaign is being spearheaded by Joanna Mallia, the same hardworking fosterer that took up the feat of rehoming over 50 cats when a local cat sanctuary closed its doors.

Speaking with Lovin Malta, Joanna explained how this campaign supports both kittens and fosterers during these difficult times, as the kitten season is in full swing.

“During this time of year, we receive loads of calls and messages to rescue pregnant cats or kittens who end up on the streets without a mummy. Sometimes we are even called to rescue kittens of few days old and we need to bottle feed them,” Joanna told Lovin Malta.

“Caring for kittens is a challenging task, and fosterers need all the help they can get to provide them with the care and support they need,” she explained.

“That’s why I got the idea to launch a Sponsor a Kitten Campaign, aimed at helping to raise funds to support fosterers who are working tirelessly to care for these adorable little creatures.”

Joanna continued to explain the realities of cat food, with kitten food being particularly expensive to obtain.

“Just a small tin of wet food costs about €3.95 and bad of 4kg of kitten dry food costs about €38. We need to give good food to mummy cats and kittens in order for them to be healthy and survive. Some kittens we rescue are very weak so we have to support them with good food.”

So how does the campaign work?

“This campaign works by asking people to sponsor a kitten for as little as €25, which will help cover the cost of food, shelter, and medical care.”

“But if you can’t afford to donate €25, don’t worry.”

“You can still make a difference by donating any amount as little as €2 or €3, which will go towards providing food for the kittens.

All donations can be sent on Revolut or BOV, through the number 79703557. Remember to choose the kitten you want to support from the pictures provided, writing the name when sending the donation.

“With many people struggling financially, the costs of caring for these tiny creatures can be overwhelming. That’s why the Sponsor a Kitten Campaign is so important, as it provides a way for people to help support fosterers in their vital work.”

“We really break our own hearts when we receive a call about kittens or heavily pregnant mummies on the street but we find no one to take them as financially they cannot afford more. That means that these kittens will barely survive or worse they get cat flu and end up blind or hit by cars.”

By sponsoring a kitten, you’ll be helping to provide them with the care they need to grow and thrive.

You’ll be helping to ensure that they have a warm place to sleep, plenty of food to eat, and the medical care they need to stay healthy.

So if you’re looking for a way to make a difference, why not consider sponsoring a kitten?

Your donation, no matter how small, can help make a big difference in the lives of these tiny creatures and the fosterers who care for them.

“While it is fun collaborating together to help animals in need, we will make a real difference and ensure that more kittens are saved and have a chance to find a loving home and a bright future rather than suffering and living on the streets, increasing the stray problem.”

The campaign will also be launched for a number of Maltese schools in the coming weeks, so if you’re a school administrator that would like to get on board, don’t hesitate to get in touch at [email protected]
