17-Year-Old Weightlifter Places Second In Snatch At European Weightlifting Championships
17-year-old weightlifter Tenishia Thornton placed second in the snatch portion at the European Weightlifting Senior Championships.
The competition, held in Yerevan, Armenia, was of high importance since it is the Olympic qualification event for Paris 2024.
Thornton competed in the 59kg category and reached good results. She opened her snatch with 82kg, moving to 84kg but she missed her 3rd attempt at 86kg. This result put her in 2nd place in the snatch portion.
The Clean and Jerk started strongly with 101kg, moving to 105kg but after a strong clean she could not conclude her jerk after she had a cramp, unfortunately, this affected also her 3rd and final attempt. She manages to lift a total of 185kg which put her in 4th place.
Despite being the younger athlete in the group she managed to place higher than Ireland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Finland, and Israel.
The athlete will now be focusing both on her A levels and training, with her next international competitions the Commonwealth Championships in India and the European Junior Championships in Romania, Both competitions in July,
