Former Ballon d’Or Nominee And Milan Legend Backs ‘Close Friend’ Bjorn Vassallo For Malta Football President As Candidates One-Up Each Other Ahead Of Election
Bjorn Vassallo has received a glowing endorsement from former Ballon d’Or nominee and A.C Milan legend Zvonimir Boban, as the candidates for President of Malta’s Football Association bid to one-up one another.
Yesterday, arguably Malta’s best-ever footballer, Carmel Busuttil (il-Bużu), backed Chris Bonmet ahead of this weekend’s election.
While Bużu led the country to victories against Belgium and Iceland, along with riveting encounters with some of Europe’s elite, he stands far away from the four Serie A titles, Champions League medal, and third place World Cup finish Boban achieved in his illustrious career.
Boban also currently serves as AC Milan’s Chief Operating Officer and previously held the post of Deputy Secretary General at FIFA.
“Zvoni and myself met at FIFA and, beyond colleagues, became close friends,” Vassallo said in a Facebook post sharing the legend’s videos.
“I’d like to thank him for this message which fills me with courage for the future ahead,” he ended.
“I believe that Bjorn Vassallo can change Maltese football and move it forward,” Boban said in his video endorsement.
