WATCH: Maltese Racing Team Breaks World Record For The Quickest 4 Cylinder Mk1 Escort Ever
A Maltese racing team just broke the world record for the fastest 4 Cylinder Ford Mark I Escorts, one of the most successful rally cars of all time.
During the MDRA Finals held at the Ħal Far race track this week, Lixxu Racing set out to do the unthinkable and break a world record on the ¼ mile track.
The jacked-up, Cosworth YB 4 cylinder Mk1 Escort put on a show all day long, impressing crowds and putting up impressive numbers even before it claimed the world record.
The previous record was at 7.42 seconds also at Ħal Far race track by Johnny Hexa’s Cosworth YB Powered Mk1 Escort.
During one of its last runs of the day, the Mk1 Escort, driven by Clint Fenech, propelled down the ¼ mile track in just 7.34 seconds, recording a top speed of 187 mph.
“We Dream It – We achieve it,” Lixxu Racing said on a Facebook post prior to the race and that sure appeared to be the case.
The Mk1s have become one of the most successful rally cars of all time but this isn’t the first time that a Maltese team has broken records in this category. In fact, Malta has a rich history with the rally car, which has become a popular vehicle at the Ħal Far race track.
