These Are Officially The Nine Most Beautiful Streets In Malta
Infrastructure Malta, the agency responsible for the maintenance of Malta’s road network, asked the general public to choose what they believe are the country’s most beautiful streets – and the public have spoken.
Although the winner was announced just last week, the competition had been running for months before, with Infrastructure Malta eventually shortlisting a total of nine competing streets.
With that in mind, here are the islands’ nine prettiest streets as voted by the general public.
9. Triq ir-Repubblika, Valletta
This iconic street in the heart of our capital leads pedestrians to some of Malta’s most important sites – starting from City Gate, to the Courts of Justice, and ending at the granaries adjacent to Fort St Elmo. Republic Street is also home to some of the capital’s most frequented shops and eateries.
8. Triq Mike Pulis, Birkirkara
This street is practically synonymous with St Helen’s Basilica – an 18th century church dedicated to Birkirkara’s patron saint and one of the country’s most popular saints. The church is surrounded by a number of traditional houses and shops which greatly add to the street’s unmarred character.
7. Triq il-Madonna ta’ Fatima, Nadur
You don’t get many unobstructed panoramas in the Maltese islands, but Triq il-Madonna ta’ Fatima offers what might be one of the best views in the country. Looking over the Gozitan village of Għajnsielem, this quaint road perfectly exhibits our sister island’s gorgeous skyline.
6. Triq Indri Borġ, Rabat
We couldn’t find much about this quaint little road – but it seems like that’s part of its magic. Triq Indri Borg is also home to a tiny holiday home in the heart of Rabat, aptly called Maltese Charm, and now we can’t stop thinking about our next weekend break.
5. Triq San Franġisk, St Paul’s Bay
This list is anything but short of picturesque views – and testament to this is St Paul’s Bay’s Triq San Franġisk. Looking over the gorgeous L-Għażżenin Bay, this street is perfect for a long evening walk on a cool summer’s day. Further up the road, you can also see the Wignacourt Tower – the first of six Wignacourt towers built all over the Maltese islands.
4. Triq San Pawl, Rabat
If you want to experience a wholly traditional, untainted Maltese street, then you have to check out Rabat’s Triq San Pawl. This street’s characterised by old and authentic houses as well as a couple of great restaurants. If that isn’t enough, the iconic Serkin is quite literally a stone’s throw away.
3. Triq Anġlu Gatt, Żejtun
No offence to Żejtun, but we’re not entirely sure why this street made it into the list, let alone the top three. Think we’re missing the point? Let us know in the comment section.
2. Triq Sant’ Anna, Floriana
Triq Sant’ Anna is probably the one street we’ve all driven through at some point in our lives. Surrounded by a flurry of cafes, bars, and retail outlets, this street is chock-full with character – and it won’t be getting old any time soon.
1. Triq Is-Santwarju, Żabbar
This Żabbar road is officially Malta’s most beautiful road as voted by the public – and we can see why. Triq is-Santwarju is surrounded by traditional Maltese houses and gallariji on both sides, with the Żabbar Parish Church looking over it all. On 13th December, a ceremony celebrating Triq is-Santwarju will be taking place to commemorate this win.
