For those of you who are only mildly aware of what Comic Con is, here’s a one line explanation: a multi-genre entertainment and comic convention held annually in different cities all over the world.
And yes, Malta also has one. Here’s everything you need to know about this mega-popular event:
1. It’s the 8th edition
Meaning the event has steadily built up a strong fan base and is eagerly awaited by many fan boys and girls. In the words of the organisers:
“The Malta Comic Con continues to be the most popular pop culture event on the Island and the biggest platform for Maltese creators to showcase their skills, sell their creations and interact with their fans.”
2. Some of the leading names in the comic industry will be there
Countless comic gurus from all over Europe will be at the event. The guest list includes a mix of professional writers and artists who have worked with major comic publishers or published independent books. Have a look at the full list of guests on the Comic Con website.
3. Cosplay competition is back!
In plain English: cosplay is combo of the words costume and play. It’s a performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent their fave comic characters. The Cosplay competition and the Fat Spidey Roaming Cosplay Awards will be returning to Malta Comic Con this year – so get your outfit ready!
4. It’s a total photo-op
Professional photographers will be around throughout the whole event for anyone who has waited all year to have some quality pictures taken.
5. And if you’re more into video games…
There’s a whole area dedicated to you. Retro to current games as well as fan favourite competitions will be returning this year to determine the best gamers in Malta.
6. Or interactive fun
Quizzes, sketch challenges, work shops, informative and entertaining talks, Q&As and discussion panels all form part of this years event – hard to believe they can fit all this in to just two days. But they do – and…
7. It’s super cheap to attend
You’re not going to spend more than a €20 on a ticket for both days even if you get yours on the last phase. So there’s really no reason to miss it. And let’s face it, you don’t want to spend the better part of December suffering from major Comic Con regret.
