This Maltese Charity Auction Turns Mistakes Into Awesome Prizes

Have you ever suffered the agony of leaving your phone or laptop behind while travelling, and leaving it too long to make a claim? Then you deserve some good karma in the form of a charity auction.

Lost, Found and Auctioned is a yearly event organised by the Malta International Airport that turns forsaken items into charitable prizes. The event has been going on for a while, and this years’ proceeds are all going towards Inspire!

Here’s how it works:

People are invited to visit the Malta International Airport on the 7th of December to bid on their favourite items. The designated auctioneers for the night – Abel, JD & Martina – will talk the audience through a selection of phones, sunglasses, tablets, toys… and more.

It’s the ultimate charity-recycling initiative – but also a chance for you to become the bidding queen/king you always knew you were born to be.

Here’s all the useful bits:

  • Tickets cost €5 each
  • Available on a first-come, first-served basis as from Wednesday 16th November.
  • You can get them in advance from the Malta International Airport reception office on Level 2 between 08:00 – 16:00 (Monday – Friday excl. public holidays)
  • Each ticket gets you a €5 voucher redeemable at Fat Harry’s, Mirabelle’s, KFC, Burger King or Sandella’s Flatbread Café
  • You also automatically enter a raffle for a chance to win a prize on the night (over and above what you decide to place a bid on).

Our advice, act promptly on your forgotten travel bits. The auction will only ever use items that have not been claimed for a serious amount of time after they’ve been lost. If you’re not quick about it – don’t waste time crying over spilt milk or €500+ worth phones that you’ve left (hopefully in airplane mode) on your now vacant seat. Chances are, you won’t see your bygone valuables again.
