Maltese Friends Literally Bump Into MMA Legend Conor McGregor On The Streets
Conor McGregor captured the world’s imagination last year when he rose seemingly from nowhere to take part in one of the biggest fights in combat sports history against Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.
After becoming one of the biggest sports stars in the world, the ‘Notorious’ McGregor has flown under the radar for the last few months, working on the next fight in his itinerary.
However, two Maltese people who were out shopping in Dublin caught the fighter off guard after bumping into him – literally.
“I live in Dublin and Dean was visiting me as a stop-over on his way to Australia,” said Denise Gafa to Lovin Malta. “We had just watched a football match after I finished work and we decided to take a different route home by chance.”
That’s when luck struck them.
“Dean noticed a nice BMW i8 by the side of the road in George’s Street and glazed at it not noticing a wee man rushing towards him. Dean, the 6 footer, literally BUMPED into Conor McGregor and Conor said “Oh, sorry man” and walked by,” said Denise.
“It took Dean a second to turn back and realise it was him. He started jumping 3 feet in the air and fan-girling. We rushed up to him as Dean persistently insisted we do and asked for a photo. The man seemed as if he was late for dinner. His BMW was giving him some sort of trouble and he kept running from the restaurant to the car, she says of the fateful meeting.”
As Dean himself says, there was no way he was going to miss this chance of meeting one of his idols. “I’m quite a fan, I’ve been following him for a few years,” he told Lovin Malta.
“When I saw his BMW i8 I was like, that has to be his BMW. I started to look around and he walks right into me, excuses himself and keeps walking. This is when I realise what happened and called him back for a quick photo. We didn’t have time to talk to him as he was rushing in for dinner I assume.”
“The funny thing is we weren’t going to get the bus from that street in the first place. We only went there when Denise remembered she had to go to buy something from a shop in that street,” he says of the events leading up to the chance meeting.
Dean now heads to Australia with an unforgettable European parting gift to see him on his way.
