WATCH: New Eurovision Stars Sing Old Eurovision Hits

Xarabank’s initiative to have this year’s Malta Eurovision Song Contest Finalists singing former Maltese contest hits was like the Eurovision gift that kept on giving. We absolutely loved the group medleys – some bits even more than others.
Here’s a countdown of how we rank the performances, medley by medley.
Medley #01
5. Maxine Pace – One life
Energy – high, looks – great. But vocals were a bit jerky at times.

4. Janice Mangion – Angel
Solid performance, but we think cool it with the vibrato.

3. Raquela Dalli Gonzi – To Dream Again
Amazing revival of a hugely underrated Eurovision gem.

2. Claudia Faniello – Let me fly
So much drama. Love.

1. Kevin Borg – Keep Me in Mind
Anyone wearing polka dots on Xarabank is a winner in our book. And the emotion, the hand conductor moves? Clear winner.

Medley #02
6. Janice Debattista ( Crosswalk ) – Singing this Song

5. Shauna Vassallo – Vertigo
Outfit – on point, stage presence needs work.

4. Rhiannon Micallef – Desire
Attitude was on par with Claudette, but vocals didn’t quite reach her level.

3. Richard Micallef – This Time
Great voice, not enough confidence.

2. Klinsmann – Tomorrow
What a hottie. Also – great vocals.

1. Brooke Borg – Warrior
Great hair and make-up, pure confidence, strong vocals.

Medley #03
5. Miriana Conte – 7th Wonder
What a little cutie. Lost it a bit on timing, but thumbs up for likability.

4. Jade Vella – The One that I Love
Points for totes making it her own. Also: major hair-envy.

3. Cherton Caruana – This is the NIght!
Fierce performance, and props for working the audience!

2. Deborah C & Josef Tabone – L-imħabba
Love us some good harmonies.

1. Franklin Calleja – Little Child
We don’t have words for the awesomeness. We’re also busy weeping.

Overall Winner
Although all the finalists gave awesome performances, we did think one rendition stood out from the rest. It was the emotionally-charged facial expressions that got us. or maybe that hint of a Celine Dione growl. Add to that a cute AF outfit, and perfectly coiffed hair.
Franklin – you’re our winner!
