It was an exciting day for the students at St. Margaret College Secondary School Verdala as they received a letter of appreciation from King Charles III.

The letter expressed the king’s gratitude to the students and the school’s founder, Martin Azzopardi, for their support and kindness towards him and his family.

Previously known as the St. Margaret Queen’s Young Leaders Group, the organizstion was established by Azzopardi in 2014 to encourage students to follow official speeches by Queen Elizabeth II and write articles to promote positive values.

With the ascension of King Charles III to the throne, the group was renamed the St. Margaret College Verdala School King’s Young Leaders Group.

In the letter, the correspondence secretary of King Charles III expresses his gratitude to Azzopardi and the group for their kindness and warm support towards the royal family.

Senior teacher and school archivist, Martin Azzopardi, notes that the school has a special connection to the British monarchy as it was once the Royal Navy School Verdala, serving as a primary school for many naval students from 1950s-1970s.

Being a member of the St. Margaret College Verdala King’s Young Leaders Group is an honour for the students, as they learn to be young country diplomats and build bridges of friendship ties between Malta and the United Kingdom.

Students believe that they can get inspired by King Charles III’s love for the poor and needy, as he founded many charitable institutions and organisations to help them.

The students of St. Margaret College are no strangers to the British monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II visiting Malta in 1967 and 2015.

During her visits, the Maltese people welcomed her and her family with open arms, eager to show their love and respect for the monarch.

King Charles III vowed to carry on Queen Elizabeth II’s lifelong service, pledging to uphold the constitutional principles at the heart of their nation. The St. Margaret College Verdala School Queen’s Young Leaders Group and Azzopardi send their daily prayers to the king and all members of the royal family.
