L-Istrina 2021 Closes Off Historic 26th Edition With Massive Amount Of Just Under €6 Million

The 2021 edition for L-Istrina, the nation’s beloved charity event, closed off late last night with a massive amount of just under €6 million raised for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.
L-Istrina’s special 26th-year edition, which this year celebrated its lucky birthday, had already raised €3 million for charity in the first six hours of the 12-hour telethon.
“This isn’t a record sum, but it’s still a sum that we weren’t expecting,” President George Vella said just before the end.
President George Vella expressed surprise at the sum gathered, even though it didn’t exceed the 2018 record of €7.1 million.
Unfortunately this year the President and his wife Miriam could not attend personally due to being in self-isolation, but they still tuned in via video conferencing during the event.
Donations still continued to pour in after the end of the marathon when the clock struck midnight.
Last year, the sum of €6.5 million was raised, but the all-time L-Istrina record stands at just over €7 million.
Among figures that attended the event to encourage donations were Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech.
Well done Malta and all those involved
