Jamie Vella, who is facing criminal proceedings over his involvement in two murders, is demanding that the presidential pardon given to assassin Vince Muscat be revoked – citing a breach of conditions through “fictitious stories and lies.”

Vella added that it was “ironic” that the same cabinet ministers who were found responsible for playing a role in the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, were still there today, expected to decide on the presidential pardon granted to Muscat, il-Koħħu – as reported by Times of Malta.

In February 2021, Il-Koħħu was granted pardon for his involvement in gunning down lawyer Carmel Chircop. This pardon formed part of a deal in which Muscat had agreed to provide information on the men who ordered the killing.

Meanwhile, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for admitting his role in the Caruana Galizia murder back in 2017.

Muscat’s pardon has now been brought under scrutiny by Vella as well as Maskar brothers Robert and Adrian Aguis. All three also stand accused of involvement in the Caruana Galizia and Chircop murders. While Vella is believed to have supplied the bomb that killed the journalist, he insists he is innocent.

Additionally, Vella said that the cabinet was aware Muscat had lied but took no action to see that his pardon was revoked, insisting that “It was obvious that he did not tell the truth.”

The conditions of the presidential pardon included that Muscat had to provide “reliable, credible and truthful information,” when according to Vella he only provided “fictitious stories and lies.”

He also said that he was filing an official request to the President of Malta for the 2021 pardon granted to Muscat to be revoked, warning of further action if the situation remained unchanged.
