‘This Is Institutionalised Corruption’: Repubblika Urges Police Action Against Rosianne Cutajar & Return Of ‘Stolen’ Money With Interest

Civil society organisation Repubblika is urging independent MP Rosianne Cutajar to be “forced” to return the money she got during her position that was deemed fraudulent as an ITS consultant… with interest.

“This is institutionalised corruption. We join the call made to the police to take action against these thieves and liars,” the NGO wrote.

A National Audit Office report concluded that there was little evidence of the work undertaken by Cutajar during her eight-month tenure as an ITS consultant. It branded the nature of her employment as irregular and fraudulent, stirring a widespread public reaction with calls for police action, administration change, and the return of the “stolen” money.

“The Auditor General’s report on the alleged consultancy of Rosianne Cutajar at ITS documents the contempt for public funds by our country’s administrators,” Repubblika wrote.

“Rosianne Cutajar committed fraud when she was a Member of Parliament. She was aided by Minister Konrad Mizzi and Pierre Fenech, who heads ITS. When the Auditor investigated, they tried to cover up for her and their actions as well.”

“Rosianne Cutajar knew what she was doing was theft. She had told Yorgen Fenech when justifying this contract that ‘everyone pigs out’. This was swinish behavior. The pigs were and are our country’s administrative system.”

The organisation went on to urge a couple of things:

  • For the ITS administration to be fired;
  • For Cutajar to pay back the “money she stole with interest”;
  • For the Labour Party to declare that she will never pay a role in it or be a candidate for anything on its behalf and;
  • For the police to take action against everyone involved.

Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà prievously told Lovin Malta that he has no problem with arresting politicians, explaining that the Malta Police Force isn’t “influenced by any names”.

Independent candidate Arnold Cassola similarly called for Cutajar to return €14,000 and for Fenech to be suspended.

“Salaries and consultancies are to be given to those who earn them and not because you scream out ‘Laburista kont u laburista nibqa.’ With regards to Pierre Fenech, he has to be suspended immediately and investigated for abuse of power and nepotism.”

During the eight-month period of Cutajar’s employment with ITS, she earned a gross income of €19,195. Cutajar then resigned in January 2020 following her appointment to Cabinet as parliamentary secretary for equality.

Do you think that the police should take action and that Cutajar should return the money with interest?
