19-Year-old tennis star Francesca Curmi has etched her name in history, becoming the first Maltese female tennis player to win a pro tournament.

Competing at a pro- ITF held in Tunisia, Curmi blitzed her way through all opponents, past top seeds from Brazil, Germany, Chile, and France.

All this, before getting the better of Chinese player Yao Xinxin (701) in the final with a score of 6-2, 6-4.

Curmi has had a busy few months competing in several ranked tournaments, primarily in Spain and Tunisia.

Her stellar performances have seen her international ranking score soar to new heights in her journey to the top. Presently, her ranking stands at 801.

Alongside Spanish athlete Paula Arias Manjon, she also came close to replicating her success in the doubles category of the same tournament but had unfortunately lost the semi-final to Czech and Japanese duo Zdena Safarova Mushika Chiho.

Regardless, her win in Tunisia marks the first an athlete in her category has achieved at this level.
