Watch: Age Of Resistance: Activists Remove Deckchairs And Umbrellas From Comino’s Blue Lagoon
An act of resistance this morning saw around 50 activists physically removing deckchairs and dismantling umbrellas from the shoreline of Blue Lagoon.
As private vendors persist with their imposition of deckchairs and umbrellas taking up all of the space that the bay offers, activists, and citizens alike, have had enough.
Moviment Graffitti activists headed to Comino in the early hours of the morning, to make their voices heard about the yearly persisting issue, chanting “Il-baħar, ix-xatt, Kemmuna ta’ kullħadd”
In the early hours of the morning, activists were seen walking towards the Blue Lagoon, holding up a banner as they approached the beach.
Activists quickly removed the deckchairs and umbrellas, placing them on the side, before laying down their towels.
As it stands, deckchair vendors are covering every inch of the shoreline with deckchairs and umbrellas from the crack of dawn, making it practically impossible to enjoy this beautiful place unless you’re ready to pay €12.50 per person.
“This summer, we intend to highlight the many issues related to Comino, starting with the ongoing theft of public space at the Blue Lagoon – one of the most beautiful places in Malta and a Natura 2000 site – by private operators who treat the shoreline as their own personal beach lido,” Moviment Graffitti had promised last week.
Back in 2021, a parliamentary petition had been filed demanding the removal of sunbeds and umbrellas from Blue Lagoon in Comino. However, this clearly fell on deaf ears.
Do you think the government needs to step in to deal with this issue?
