Watch: Human Rights Award Announced For The El Hiblu 3

The El Hiblu 3 are being honoured for being human rights defenders through an award.

The young men will receive this award in a ceremony set for 13th April 2024 where representatives of various human rights organisations, poets, and musicians from Malta and beyond will help to celebrate the El Hiblu 3.

Former President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca will present Abdalla, Amara, and Kader with a human rights award on behalf of the Coalition for the El Hiblu 3.

This was announced earlier today during a manifestation marking the five years that Abdalla, Amara, and Kader have spent in debilitating legal limbo.

Coleiro Preca also attended the demonstration, delivering a powerful speech emphasising that they are being charged without evidence. She further exclaimed that the boys are nothing but heroes, saving 120 people from a life of torture while in an extremely tense situation.

“Five and a half years ago, Abdalla, Amara, and Kader arrived in Malta, after serving as mediators and translators on El Hiblu 1. At that time, they were only 15, 16, and 19 years old respectively, and managed a perilous and tension-filled situation at sea,” the organisers wrote on social media.
 
“These youths had to endure continuous confinement and dehumanizing restrictions, which didn’t allow them to live a normal life. The accusations against them are inhumane and unjust. Free the El Hiblu 3.”
 
This demonstration was organised by the Coalition for the El Hiblu 3 which will give the young men an award for being human rights defenders.
