Watch: Outspoken Maltese Gynaecologist Swallows Abortion Pill In Valletta To Crowd Applause

Prominent gynaecologist and activist Isabel Stabile straight-up swallowed a medical abortion pill in Valletta to prove how safe and effective it is.

Stabile performed the action to a cheering crowd at last Sunday’s pro-choice rally in Valletta, proving that it’s much easier to do than it is often painted as.

Stabile explained how she ordered the abortion pill from Women on Web, holding up the packet of pills to the crowd as it cheered on.

“We are talking about this,” she said, showing the four pills in the packet. “So, what you do, is you open the packet, you take it out of the packet as I’m about to do, and you swallow it,” she said, as someone handed her a water bottle.

“You put it in your mouth, like this,” she said. As she swallowed the medical abortion pill, the crowd erupted into cheers and claps.

After the crowd calmed down, Stabile continued to explain the process, “you wait 24 hours and then you hope that all will be well”.

“24 hours later, you take the last remaining pills, and you put it under your tongue for around 30 minutes. After the time passes, you spit out the rest. And then you go and swallow some painkillers,” she explained.

“Around 24 hours later, your cramps will start and the bleeding will start, and you will finally start crying because you know you’ve reached the beginning of the end of what you really didn’t want to happen,” she said.

“Because let’s face it, most abortions do not happen by choice, it’s about wanting to end a pregnancy. There’s always another reason, and that other reason is important, no matter what it is. And it’s not up to us to decide,” she said as the crowd cheered on.

“The bottom line is that this is easy. And the only blood you’ll be seeing is the one coming out of your vagina if you have one. And if you don’t have one, then it’s none of your business,” she concluded.

While abortion in all forms is strictly illegal in Malta, Doctors for Choice have made it easy for women to order abortion pills online, which can be taken in the first trimester of pregnancy.
