A struggling turtle that was tangled in wire and plastic bottles was saved by beachgoers who happened to be in Golden Bay.

While the action is to be commended, it’s important to remind people that when finding an injured turtle, it’s of utmost necessity to call the Wildlife Rescue Team from Nature Trust so that they can safely untangle the turtle.

The turtle was spotted struggling by beachgoers, due to one of its flippers being tangled in rope and plastic bottles.

Footage sent to Lovin Malta shows the beachgoers carefully untangling the turtle’s flipper by cutting it free from the rope and plastic bottles.

The turtle was then freed back into its natural habitat, with another footage showing the turtle making its way back to the sea.

Lovin Malta has previously spoken with Nature Trust on wildlife rescues, and they always stress to never untangle any turtles yourself, to avoid further injury.

Boat owners, fishermen, and beachgoers finding injured turtles are urged to report to Nature Trust on this number 9999 9505 and bring the turtle in until help arrives
