A 72-year-old woman has died after she was run over by a motorcycle in Triq il-Wied, Birkirkara this afternoon.

The elderly Naxxar resident was run over by a Honda motorcycle which was being driven by a 22-year-old man from Mosta at around noon. 

Upon impact, the man fell off the motorcycle and his vehicle crashed into a Renault, which was being driven by a 44-year-old woman resident of Xewkija.

A medical team was called to the scene and an ambulance took the elderly woman to Mater Dei hospital for the necessary treatment. However, she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.

The drivers of the Renault and the Honda were not injured.
Magistrate Rachel Montebello is leading an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
