80th Anniversary Of George Cross Given To Malta Celebrated With Reenactment In Marsa

A commemorative activity marking the 80th anniversary of the giving of the George Cross to Malta is being organised in Marsa.
With Marsa being named the cultural city for 2022, the Marsa Historical and Cultural group, in conjunction with the Marsa Local Council and The Battlefront Living History Group Malta, have rolled out a programme of activities for a full day celebrating and recognising all things George Cross-related.
The event will be held in Marsa on Sunday 16th October.

The full programme
To start the day off, the inauguration of an exhibition showing the extent of the damage the island suffered during the second world war alongside other wartime memorabilia will be held at the local council premises. Other exhibits include military uniforms, armaments and much more.
Later on, a wartime re-enactment and a static outdoor exhibition of military vehicles near the church of Maria Regina will be held. The convoy of military vehicles will depart from the area and move to Marsa Cross road near Holy Trinity church where they can be
viewed by the public.
At 11.30am, a debate on wartime experience with the participation of the public will be held before the Heritage Trail Tour kicks off on vintage buses.
At 4.30pm, a re-enactment of the giving of the George Cross will be held. After this, the public can view the George Cross medal.
