Air Malta In Constant Contact With Heathrow Amid Major Luggage Backlog

Air Malta has been in constant contact with authorities at London Heathrow Airport amid a major backlog of undelivered luggage within Terminal 2.
Hundreds of suitcases have piled up within the airport after a technical malfunction with Terminal 2’s baggage system, which has seen countless passengers, including those of Air Malta, travel without their luggage or face massive delays retrieving it.
The malfunction has since been fixed, but the airport told Air Malta that it could take days until all the accumulated luggage is provided to airlines to allow them to deliver it to passengers. The issue has been compounded by staff shortages in the airport.
“Air Malta is in constant contact with LHR authorities pushing them for solutions to reunite passengers with their luggage as soon as possible,” a spokesperson said.
“The airline apologised to its passengers for this delay but unfortunately this is due to circumstances beyond its control, and it is totally reliant upon London Heathrow Airport sorting out the bags and delivering these to airlines to in turn, allow airlines to forward them to their customers.”
Air Malta has been operating out of Terminal 2 since the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is set to return its operations to Terminal 4 on Wednesday 22nd June.
A number of flights will be cancelled into and out of Heathrow to deal with the issue. However, Air Malta flights have not been affected.
