‘Another Win For Malta’: Appeals Court Confirms PBS Breached PN’s Rights In Impartiality Case
An appeals court has just confirmed that PBS and the Broadcasting Authority were indeed breaching the Nationalist Party’s rights and acting in partiality on two separate occasions.
This decision was once again confirmed this morning after the original sentence delivered back in July 2022 was appealed.
As a result, damages were raised from €1,500 each to €5,000.
Back then, the Courts had found that both PBS and the Broadcasting Authority failed to ensure impartiality and provide equal coverage to the PN.
“Another victory for Malta. The Court proved us right again this morning,” PN leader Bernard Grech wrote following the appeal’s decision.
“The Constitutional Court found PBS and the Broadcasting Authority guilty of violating the Fundamental Rights of the Nationalist Party when they censored our message,” he said.
“This is confirmation that PBS has become Robert Abela’s propaganda machine. The Nationalist Party will take every step necessary to see that we have a Broadcasting that really belongs to the people,” he said.
In February 2022, the PN filed a constitutional case over a TVAM interview of the opening of the Marsa flyover junction in April 2021 and the promos of the 2022 Budget that were aired during news breaks in October and November 2021.
