Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has called an urgent cabinet meeting for this evening, Lovin Malta is informed.

Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne, Justice Minister Owen Bonnici, Family Minister Michael Falzon and Parliamentary Secretaries Julia Farrugia Portelli and Silvio Parnis have been spotted entering Castille.

When asked, each one was non-committal on their reason for entering the Prime Minister’s office. It is as yet unclear why the meeting has been called. However, after the last Cabinet meeting, both Konrad Mizzi and Chris Cardona had stepped down from their respective roles as ministers.

Muscat has faced a lot of pressure to resign himself following the arrests of his former chief of staff Keith Schembri and businessman Yorgen Fenech in connection to the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. However, the Prime Minister has received the unanimous backing of both the Labour Party’s executive and its parliamentary group.
