‘Civil Society Network’ Is Organising Second National Demonstration This Sunday

Following last Sunday’s massive national demonstration, that saw one of the largest non-partisan crowds gather for a protest, the Civil Society Network will be organising a second national demonstration this Sunday, this time in Sliema.

The demonstration will bring people together again to demand justice for slain journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. They are demanding three things: the resignation of the Police Commissioner and the Attorney General, and for those replacing them to be appointed by a two-thirds majority in parliament.

In response to criticism aimed at the choice of speakers at last Sunday’s event, with people saying that some speakers had a clear partisan bias, the Civil Society Network said that all speakers at this Sunday’s event will be announced shortly.

They also stressed that while everyone is invited to attend, members of parliament and party leaders could not stand in the front rows. They have also prohibited any banners, signs or placards that may have a pro- or anti-political party bias.

The event will be held on Sunday 29 October, 4pm. It will start from Chalet, Sliema and head towards Amery Street, Sliema.
