Degiorgio Brothers Appeal For Retrial In Daphne Caruana Galizia Murder Case After Guilty Plea

The Degiorgio brothers have just filed an application for a retrial in the Daphne Caruana Galizia murder case.
This comes just weeks after the pair pleaded guilty to assassinating Caruana Galizia, on 14th October – five years after they were arrested at the Marsa potato shed.
The appeal application was signed by lawyers Noel Bianco and Leslie Cuschieri, MaltaToday has reported.
The new lawyers were brought on to assist the brothers in their case after former lawyer William Cuschieri dropped the case weeks before.
The appeal application reads that there was “insufficient time to go through the colossal amount of evidence, most of them documents which had been filed by the prosecution”.
The brothers were accused of the murder of investigative journalist Caruana Galizia, after her brutal assassination on 16th October 2017.
George and Alfred Degiorgio were arrested in December 2017, along with Vince Muscat, who was last year sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the murder as part of a plea deal.
