Felix Busuttil ‘Slightly Saddened’ By Casual Election Snub But ‘Bows His Head’ To PL Decision
PL candidate Felix Busuttil has admitted he was left disappointed after being denied the chance to contest a casual election but said he will bow his head to the party’s decisions.
“We will keep on working towards a common goal, that of love towards our country and everything that is good and right,” Busuttil said after the PL casual election process this morning.
“I am still a bit saddened by the fact that I didn’t have a chance to nominate myself on the 10th district but I will always bow my head to the party’s decisions.”
“At the end of the day, I work under the party’s umbrella and not my own, for the good of the country we love so much. I believe that all the elected MPs are genuine, hardworking and attracted to integrity.”
Busuttil contested the general election on the 10th district, receiving 76 first-count votes.
Although it’s a low number of votes, he would have been in pole position to get elected via casual election, seeing as the PL candidates ahead of him had all got elected via other avenues, except for Evarist Bartolo, who announced his retirement shortly after the election.
However, Clifton Grima and Michael Falzon, who were elected on two districts, both ended up keeping the 10th and dropping the 9th, even though Rebecca Buttigieg was the only PL candidate on that district who had yet to be elected.
The PL therefore ended up co-opting Randolph Debattista to Parliament, with Debattista later also appointed CEO of the party.
