Malta’s President George Vella has personally congratulated Prime Minister Robert Abela on yet another general election win in the bag while thanking the PN leader for his efforts.

Statements were released from the Office of the President just a few moments after it became apparent that the Labour Party has secured another five years in administration.

“Shortly after the Leader of the Labour Party Robert Abela officially announced that the Labour Party had won the General Election by an absolute majority of votes, the President of Malta, during a short telephone call, congratulated him and wished him well in this responsible role,” the statement read.

“After the Leader of the Nationalist Party Bernard Grech conceded defeat, the President of Malta called him to thank him for his contribution to a democratic election campaign and wished him well in the coming years as Leader of the Opposition,” it said.

This is the third consecutive Labour victory, with the party having won the last two elections by a vast majority in 2017 and 2013.
