The 69-year-old man who lost his life in yesterday’s mechanical ploughing accident in Fomm ir-Riħ has been identified as Emanuel Grech.

“The Mġarr community is devastated by the loss of Emanuel Grech. We have always known Emanuel as a hardworking man,” parliamentary secretary Alicia Bugeja Said said.

“Such unfortunate incidents show that even though the work of a farmer is one that brings satisfaction, it is also work that can bring suffering and even risks,” she said.

“Sincere condolences to Emanuel’s family, especially his wife Evelyn and sons Edmond, Samuel, and David,” she said.

Police were informed of the incident at around 3.15pm yesterday, with medical assistance being sent to a field within the limits of Mġarr.

Members of the Civil Protection Department as well as an ambulance were called on-site and rushed the man to Mater Dei Hospital.

However, he was unfortunately declared dead shortly afterward.

Magistrate Rachel Montebello has opened an inquiry into the death, while police investigations are still ongoing.

Rest in Peace Emanuel
