Emirates Make Malta Staff Redundant, Stops All Flights To The Country
Emirates has stopped all flights to Malta and made all local staff redundant as it closes its Maltese office.
A former high-ranking official from Emirates has informed Lovin Malta that the premium airline has discontinued its daily operations from Dubai to Malta on a permanent basis. The decision comes following problematic months for the company in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
All local Emirates staff have also been made redundant in the latest move, Lovin Malta was also informed.
Emirates stopped flights to Malta back in March as the COVID-19 pandemic swept the world. However, it now appears that the popular company will not be returning to the island anytime soon.
An Emirates spokesperson told Lovin Malta that Malta is among many cities and countries where the airline’s operations remain suspended due to ongoing travel or flight restrictions.
“We hope to restart our operations in Malta when it is commercially and operationally feasible to do so in the future, and we will make a formal announcement if there are any developments in this regard,” he said.
