Isabelle Bonnici, the mother of the late Jean-Paul Sofia, has laid a wreath at the worker’s monument in Msida, a symbolic gesture on International Workers Day in honour of those workers who lost their lives at work, like her young son.

Jean Paul Sofia tragically lost his life at 20 last December after a building collapsed on him at a construction site in Kordin.

“With this gesture, Isabelle is emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the life and health of all workers, who with so much perseverance and sacrifice provide a living for their families,” a statement on the act read.

Bonnici’s goal is to fight for justice for workers as well as her son and emphasized the need for a public inquiry into the tragedy.

Politicians and activists have called on authorities to open a public inquiry since the tragedy, and despite the site’s demolition hindering the progress of ongoing inquiries, no advancements have been made in the investigation, and a public inquiry has not been opened.
