Franco Debono Receives Threats From PN Activist

Police have opened up an investigation into threats made against Franco Debono, the criminal lawyer and former MP, by a PN activist.

The Times of Malta has reported how Charles Zammit left a voice note on a Whatsapp group insisting that he “would not rest until [he] smashed his face”.

It is believed that Zammit will likely be charged with hate speech following the incident.

Debono, who served as a PN MP between 2008 and 2013, was an outspoken member of the Lawrence Gonzi administration, clashing with the then-Prime Minister and ineffectual cabinet members like Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici.

He was a controversial figure at the time. However, many of the vital reforms he called for are slowly becoming a reality today.

The threat came following reports that Debono was proposed to chair the  Broadcasting Authority.
