Franco Debono Whips Out Famous Form 2C Card Again To Make An Important Point

Franco Debono has shown everyone his famous Form 2C report card again to make a funny but important point about a new law set to allow 16-year-olds to become mayors.

“Time for some humour. How prophetic was I when I displayed my Form 2C results a few years ago?” Debono asked.

“Why may that be? Nowadays, a certificate like that could allow you to become mayor at 16. Let’s say it as is. On what criteria can a 16-year-old candidate be evaluated? How will you decide if they deserve your vote or not?”

“At 16, they will still be in school, so how will you assess their capabilities and qualities? What other performance records will they have to show besides their school certificates? That they didn’t used to cry a lot as a baby?”

“The truth is that, at 16, not even the most brilliant student will have the necessary maturity to lead a town or a village nor the energy to change the system that will most probably end up swallowing them up.”

Debono’s Form 2C classmates included former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and PL MP Edward Zammit Lewis.

Despite several serious questions about it, the mayor bill enjoys vast political support, with both PL and PN officially in favour of lowering the minimum mayorship age from 18 to 16.

PN MPs Mark Anthony Sammut and Justin Schembri have voiced some skepticism about it but it is as yet unknown whether they will put their money where their mouths are and vote against it in Parliament.

Do you think 16-year-olds should be allowed to become mayors?
