Get Off Your Phone: Fines For Mobile Use While Driving In Malta To Double To €200
Are you guilty of using your phone while coasting Malta’s roads? If people’s general safety doesn’t concern you, then the newly increased fines might be a better deterrent.
Fines for using your mobile while driving will double from €100 to €200, according to Transport Minister Aaron Farrugia, who announced a series of changes to crackdown on reckless drivers on the islands.
Being caught will also mean you’ll be penalised six to nine points on your license, a dramatic increase from the previous three to six.
Fines have been increased across the board.
Drivers caught driving through a red light with also face a fine doubled from €100 to €200; while those found driving over the limit by 15 kilometres will face citations from €100 from the previous €69.88.
Think twice about using headphones while driving, with fines up to €200 for regular drivers and €300 if you are a cab or bus driver.

Farrugia also said that road inspections in Malta and Gozo have increased in 2022, while nearly 80,000 citations were given out last year.
