Għaxaq Residents Left Fuming After Repeated Power Cuts Leave Them In Sweltering Heat
Homeowners in Għaxaq are calling on authorities to figure out how to keep the electricity running in their locality after a power cut left swathes of homes in the dark.
“It’s truly shameful… it’s 2021 and the power goes off twice in one day in Għaxaq, for a total of five hours! Two hours this morning and three hours this evening, we’ve been without electricity since 9.10pm and it’s just returned now… it’s a terrible situation,” one woman said at around 1am this morning.
“At least it’s come back for you – we’re still in the dark!” said another woman in response.
One resident who spoke to Lovin Malta said her household spent 10 hours without electricity, leaving the family to figure out how to sleep “in this sweltering heat”.
Other residents in towns like Santa Lucija also reported facing power cuts yesterday evening and early this morning.
A few weeks ago, several towns across Malta experienced a similar lack of electricity for around eight hours. Enemalta, Malta’s electricity authority, said the issue had stemmed from high temperatures creating immense pressure on underground cables, leading them to stop functioning.
