Heritage Malta Apologises For ‘Misleading’ Post Promoting Fort St Angelo As An Advertising Space

Heritage Malta has apologised for a controversial Facebook post which promoted the walls of the historic Fort St Angelo as an advertising space, stating that the post was misleading and badly communicated.
“With reference to [the Facebook post], Heritage Malta would like to clarify that all the projections which are shown in this space are limited to national events and to activities of a historical, cultural and artistic nature,” a spokesperson for the national heritage agency told Lovin Malta.
“This space has been used in this manner for the past 3-4 years. Content is always vetted accordingly and subject to approval.”

“Heritage Malta regrets that the Facebook post has been misleading and badly communicated and also confirms that there was never the intention to use Fort St Angelo as a billboard space. Heritage Malta also confirms that action has been taken to ensure this is not repeated.”
In a Facebook post earlier this week, Heritage Malta described the Birgu fort, renowned for withstanding the Great Siege of 1565, as a “unique advertising space.”
It included photos of a light show on the fort’s walls, promoting an exhibition of the Malta International Contemporary Art Space (MICAS).
However, it pulled down the post and retracted its decision in the wake of public criticism. Culture Minister Owen Bonnici also criticised Heritage Malta, stating that Fort St Angelo shouldn’t be reduced to a billboard.
