An international, seven-artist exhibition has landed in Valletta this week, inspired by a poem by Ted Hughes.

Lily Agius Gallery presents a collective exhibition of paintings, drawings, photography and sculpture called Hover-Still, open until 20th July at the Malta Society of Arts.

Drawing from Ted Hughes’ ethereal poem Go Fishing, these contemporary artists pull afresh from the verse of the British poet, forging new worlds through the sensory landscape of Hughes.

The artists are Eiko Borcherding, CO-MA, Stephanie Galea, Luca Indraccolo, Sallyanne Morgan, Ivan Prieto and Julien Vinet, whose work “hovers still” within the ornate walls of the 16th Century palazzo.

“Artists are poets. They project their own ideas through their art, life’s journey, all upheavals, the painful beauty of it all,” Lily Agius explained about the show.

Go Fishing is imbued with a vividly scenic natural landscape. What seems to be a simple fishing trip, becomes a delicate contemplation on morality, and the transient fragility of life.

In this thread, these artists from London, Spain, Italy, France, Germany and Malta present their works as new branches to Hughes’ eternal reflection.

Hover-Still remains open until the 20th of July at Malta Society of Arts, 219 Republic Street.

Open Mondays & Fridays 9am to 7pm; Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays 9am – 12pm & 4pm to 7pm; Saturdays 9am – 1pm.
