After Infrastructure Malta Promised Mosta Road Will Be Finished By Summer, Autumn Is Now Here

Back in May, Infrastructure Malta had promised that the arterial Mosta road which has been closed for a year and a half will be “finished by summer”.

However, autumn is here, and it has been for a few weeks now, and Triq il-Kbira is far from complete.

Infrastructure Malta is now saying that the works will be done by November, months after the original completion date of May 2022.

Triq il-Kbira, one of the principal roads where people can enter Mosta, was closed entirely in March 2021 and has not been opened for traffic since, causing unimaginable and long-term inconveniences.

Meanwhile, authorities have continued to start works on various other roads around Malta, failing to complete previous works before commencing new ones.

This has caused Malta’s road users to experience a heightened level of gridlock traffic, with traffic jams even being reported as late as 8pm.

“Infrastructure Malta will complete the reconstruction of the street with the final asphalt works this summer, as soon as the additional works funded by the Local Council are ready. The asphalt works had to be postponed as otherwise, the new surface would have been damaged by the ongoing Local Council works,” IM had told Lovin Malta back in May.

Lovin Malta has yet again reached out to an Infrastructure Malta spokesperson to enquire about the delay and the forecasted date for completion.

“This phase of works in the lower part of the street, from L-Isperanza Street to Constitution Street, is currently at an advanced stage of implementation and is envisaged to be ready by the end of October. All remaining works, including the topmost layer of asphalt, will be ready in November.”

This comes after six businesses along Triq il-Kbira recently filed a judicial protest after the ongoing roadworks greatly disrupted their businesses for over a year and a half.
