Joseph Muscat Meets Pope Francis In Vatican City
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat met with Pope Francis for a final private meeting in the Vatican.
The meeting begun with a private meeting between the Pope and Muscat, before Muscat’s family were invited in to meet his Holiness as well. In photos that were released today, Muscat can be seen accompanied by his wife Michelle and his two daughters Etoile and Soleil.
In a photo uploaded to his Instagram, Muscat described the moment as “a special meeting with Pope Francis”.
Prior to the meeting, a number of Maltese academics, as well as a top official in the Maltese Archdiocese and a former University of Malta lecturer, sent a letter to a Archbishop in Rome urging the Pope to cancel his planned visit with Muscat.
This will be the last time Muscat meets the leader of the Roman Catholic Church as Prime Minister of Malta.
