AG Prosecutor Karl Muscat Died Of Heart Failure, Autopsy Report Finds

An autopsy has found that Karl Muscat, a prosecutor in the Attorney’s General’s office, died of heart failure with no signs of foul play.
Muscat died of cardiorespiratory failure, police said today, with tests now focusing on what caused it.
The autopsy concluded that the body had no signs of violence on it and there were no signs of injuries on his body which could indicate that he defended himself from any aggression.
Muscat, 43, was found dead in his home at 12.45pm on 3rd August by relatives, who immediately called the police.
Police are still currently treating the case as an equivocal death investigation – which are inquiries that are still open to interpretation as police look to determine whether it was an accidental death, homicide or suicide.
However, police did say that they did not believe that third parties were involved in the death.
Muscat was working on the case involving Ryan Schembri, the owner of the now defunct More Supermarkets. He was also leading the prosecution against car dealer and alleged kidnapper Christian Borg.
He was also known in political circles, following his father former PN MP Pierre Muscat’s footsteps, and served as PN local councillor in Rabat. He stepped down in October 2020 to take up his post in the AG’S office.
Notably, he led a petition supporting then-PN leader Adrian Delia during a period of crisis within the party.
An inquiry is being led by Magistrate Gabriella Vella.
