Light Aircraft Crashes At Malta’s Airport And Forces Closure Of Main Runway
A light aircraft crashed on Malta International Airport’s main runway this morning but the two passengers on board escaped unscathed.
The airport confirmed that the accident occurred at around 8:45am and that its Rescue and Firefighting Services Team was dispatched to the scene immediately, taking control of the situation within seconds.
While the two passengers on board thankfully didn’t sustain any injuries, the accident has forced the temporary closure of the airport’s main runway.
“The airport team and the relevant stakeholders are working on ensuring that a normal operation can be resumed soon,” a spokesperson for MIA said, while confirming that an investigation into what caused the accident is underway.
