Bernard Grech On Għasri Mayor: ‘I Only Know That He Resigned After Meeting With PM’
Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has said that he is not aware of the reason why Għasri Mayor Daniel Attard decided to resign, and he only knows that he left right after meeting with the Prime Minister.
While answering questions from Lovin Malta during a press conference, Grech clarified that there were no problems that he personally knew about that could have led to the resignation of Attard.
“I am not aware of why he left, I only know that he left shortly after meeting with Prime Minister Robert Abela,” he said during a press conference this morning.
“I have never had any issues with the mayor of Għasri, and I am not informed on what was discussed,” he said.
Grech also expressed that while it’s disappointing to see people resigning, he clarified that the party will remain open towards anyone that would like to return, as long as their values remain in line.
Gozitan mayor of Għasri Daniel Attard filed his resignation from the Nationalist Party, only a day after posting an image to his social media platforms publicly meeting with Prime Minister Robert Abela.
“I will remain both accessible and dedicated towards the people of Għasri which I love, and I have been loyal towards during my last nine years as the mayor,” he said.
The Nationalist Party has already faced five resignations during the last few days, including Kristy Debono, Claudio Grech, Mario Galea, Clyde Puli, and now Daniel Attard.
Following Attard’s abrupt resignation, it will be very hard for the Nationalist Party to secure Għasri now, in the upcoming general election.
