The Malta police force has confirmed that the partner of 35-year-old Lourdes Agius from Poala, an unnamed 25-year-old man from Ivory Coast, is being held in connection with her murder.
Agius’ body was found by her mother after 7am Saturday morning at her residence in Triq F. Tortell, Paola. Upon funding her daughter’s dead body, she ran into the street in a panic, screaming that the man had murdered her daughter.

An autopsy has confirmed that Agius died of strangulation
TVM reported that bruises and pressure marks were found on her neck and back.
It was reported that neighbours heard a disturbance earlier that morning, and it was not the first time that they had. The man was known to have a history of domestic violence with Agius, and the police had visited the residence on previous occasions.
The police were informed of the incident at around 9am, whereupon senior police officials were sent to the scene. They found the man, along with the couple’s two-year-old baby, and her dead body.
He was taken to police headquarters for further questioning. Magistrate Astrid Grima is leading the inquiry while officers from the Homicide Squad, Criminal Investigation Department and the Paola District are leading investigations.
