Former Serbian Pornstar Stalked And Exposed Himself To Two Underage Girls In Qormi Supermarket
A former pornstar that stands accused of exposing his genitals to two minors in a Qormi supermarket has pleaded not guilty to the defilement of minors and has been refused bail as his case continues to be heard.
The Maltese court heard how Stevan Karanovic, a 57-year-old Serb living in Rabat, stalked two underage girls around a Qormi supermarket, flashing them whenever their parents were not looking.
“I cannot explain it,” Karanovic reportedly said when asked why he would do such a thing. “Children don’t threaten or shout, they don’t do any harm. They just laugh or look in disgust… Nobody suffered because of me. I made a mistake.”
He was arraigned by police on Monday, where officers found a stash of child porn, some including newborn babies.
The incident occurred last Saturday in a Qormi supermarket
The two girls, who are cousins, were shopping with their parents in a Qormi supermarket when Karanovic began following them. He had first approached them while they were waiting at the cheese counter, where he pulled up his shorts, revealing himself.
He then began to follow them around the supermarket.
The girls allegedly told police that Karanovic would expose himself every time they looked in his direction – yet, whenever the parents looked, he would cover himself up with a leather bag.
Eventually, one girl told her mother not to look behind her as “there is an old man with his penis out.” It was at this point that the parents alerted workers at the supermarket to the man, and a manager entered and personally held Karanovic for the police to take over.
Police found a stash of child porn when they raided his apartment
Besides exposing himself to minors, Karanovic also stands accused of the production, acquisition or circulation of indecent materials involving minors after police found a large amount of child porn in his possession, some involving newborn babies.
Police found child porn on a series of CDs, a number of USB pendrives, as well as his personal computer, which were all confiscated to be used against him in court.
Police also found the small leather bag he would use to quickly cover himself up in supermarkets.
Karanovic told police that he has started collecting child porn “out of curiosity”, before beginning to form an actual collection. He also said he was a former pornstar in Serbia, and police found videos that proved this claim.
When asked why he exposed himself, he said he didn’t know, but he “had felt the need to show himself”
He also said that he was a member of a nudist group, and that this wasn’t the first time he had committed such an act.
Seeing as a ticket to Croatia was found in his possession, magistrate Audrey Demicoli refused bail, and adjourned the case until September.
Karanovic was led out of the courtroom with his hands on his face, shaking his head.
