Four Maltese Tragically Lose Their Lives After Car Plunges Into Sea In Croatia

Four Maltese citizens, two men and two women, have died in a tragic road accident in Croatia after the car they were travelling in plunged into the sea.
The crash occurred at around 4:20pm on Thursday on the D8 state road near Bunica, just south of Senj. According to reports, the vehicle was travelling from Rijeka towards Senj when the driver lost control on a left-hand bend.
The car veered to the right, struck two stone barriers, and then fell approximately 70 metres down a ravine before ending up in the sea.
Local news outlet Croatia Week reported that authorities are also investigating whether the driver may have suffered a medical episode while behind the wheel.
Emergency responders, including members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service from Gospić, recovered the bodies from the water. They were subsequently transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Rijeka for autopsy and formal identification.
A criminal investigation has been launched to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
The Maltese authorities are expected to release further information in the coming hours, as efforts continue to notify the victims’ families.
