A video by a Buzzfeed writer recounting how she had become famous in Malta overnight is currently trending on Youtube worldwide.

It is currently the 39th most trending video on Youtube, but was as high as the 16th last night.

In the video, Erin Chack had recounted how a listicle extolling Malta’s beauty she had written three years ago had become viral on the island – with two local newspapers writing about it, Maltese hotels offering her free accommodation, and a man even launching a crowdfunding campaign to get her to visit Malta.

Earlier this year, she finally visited Malta and visited the man behind the crowdfunding campaign, architect Chris Mintoff. Mintoff, who happens to be the great nephew of former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff, treated her to a tour of Castille including the rooftop.

Chack’s video has given Malta even more international exposure and has racked up over 1 million views in the three days it has been online, as well as making it to the top 20 trending Youtube videos worldwide.

And of course the fact was not lost on Chris Mintoff, who took the chance to soak up his new-found fame.
