Maltese Artist’s Political Artwork Gets Longlisted At World Illustration Awards 2023

Julian ‘Julinu’ Mallia, a well-known artist and musician from Malta, has achieved yet another important milestone in his artistic career.
His thought-provoking artwork called “The Cost of Lies,” which responds to the crisis in Ukraine, has made it onto the long list for the highly respected World Illustration Awards 2023.
This achievement continues to highlight Mallia’s impressive skills and influence in the global field of illustration.

Mallia’s art often has a dreamy, weird vibe to it, and sometimes he adds a touch of humour. He can work with old-school methods as well as digital tools, creating everything from album and book covers to storyboards and more.

But his creativity doesn’t end with art. He’s also a drummer, playing in a metal band called Weeping Silence. His drumming adds a different kind of creativity that connects with his artwork.

“The Cost of Lies,” shows his belief that artists should speak out about injustice and lies. It’s all about the pain people have suffered because of the conflict in Ukraine.

His artwork also got picked as the official mascot for the Games of the Small States of Europe in 2023, showing his lasting influence and worldwide recognition.
