Two Maltese women have spent the last five years supporting hundreds of cancer patients through free sessions of healing therapy.

During October – the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness – Lovin Malta spoke to Marika Fleri, the co-founder of an inspiring project called Feel Good Friday which provides free sessions of aromatherapy and reflexology to cancer patients on the first Friday of every month.

The charitable project led by Marika and her friend Lorraine Spiteri aims to provide much-needed relief from the physical and mental strains that come with cancer.

Patients can go every month to benefit from the relaxing sessions which usually range to around six per person.

However, we don’t just stop at six sessions if someone needs more. We’re here for as long as they need us,” Marika explained

Another project the pair has embarked on is called Share the Love which extends the healing therapies to people who don’t suffer from cancer but still need support.

“We started realising that some of the people we worked with were not going through cancer but were going through very hard times.”

So, they decided to use the tips that they receive from their company – AromaHub – to build up a kitty that funds their support of people without cancer.

Europa Donna Malta, a leading NGO affiliated with a European coalition of 47 countries, is covering the costs of complementary therapy for several breast cancer patients. Thanks to this, the waiting list of Feel Good Friday is sped up, allowing Marika and Lorraine to see patients with other types of cancer.

Together, these two inspiring women are ensuring that cancer patients don’t just survive—they thrive, supported by the healing power of touch.
