New Speed Camera Installed In Attard Following Accident-Filled Year And Multiple Local Council Pleas
Attard’s Central Link is about to get a new speed camera, with a photo shared to Facebook this morning showing the newly installed camera and markings on the road notifying that this will be a 60km/hr zone.
The camera, installed along Tumas Chetcuti Road towards Rabat, is down the same road which would’ve initially started off as an 80km/hr on the Imrieħel Bypass.

This morning’s appearance of the speed camera comes after months of pressure from members of the Attard Local Council, pressure which mounted after a particularly devastating couple of months as far as road accidents in the area.In December 2022, a 27-year-old man ended up fighting for his life after losing control along Central Link. A couple of months later, a 50-year-old woman was also at risk of dying after an accident between two cars in March.
Mere weeks later, on 21st May, a horrific accident killed 17-year-old St. Paul’s Bay resident Kacey Sciberras.
The following morning, Attard’s Labour councillor Victor Galea was reduced to frustrated tears, calling the area “a black spot” after the accident which claimed the life of the teenage girl. “We’re fed up of chasing Transport Malta to install speed cameras,” Galea had said. “Look what happened today. They should be ashamed.”
Meanwhile, the 50km/hr speed camera just up the road along Attard’s Nutar Zarb road has frequently topped the country’s list of speed camera ticket list.
It is not yet known when this latest speed camera will be actually turned on start operating.
