After being reported missing on Wednesday, Marija Lourdes Bonnici and her daughter Angele Bonnici were found dead in a field on the outskirts of Gudja following a police search that took place on Friday evening. They were found to have gun shot wounds, and were partially buried in the ground when the police located them.

Marija Lourdes’ son has reportedly been arrested in connection to the murder, after a family member provided the police with some information that eventually led to the discovery of their bodies.

Back in 2005 Marija Lourdes’ husband was found guilty of another double murder, and sentenced to 31 years in prison

In April of 2005, Paul Bonnici was found guilty of murder after fatally shooting two of his neighbours outside their home in G?axaq in the year 2000. Paul admitted to murdering Joseph Dalli and his wife Carmela after engaging in an argument with the two of them.

At the time, Paul was 58 years old, and it is now suspected that his son is connected to the murder of his family members.

There is little information available about the death of Marija and Angele Bonnici, however police suspect that the two were murder at an alternate location, and dumped in the Gudja field post-mortem. A magisterial inquiry led by magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo has been appointed.
